The OAK Initiative UK CIC, in collaboration with ODYSSEY Media House CIC, is thrilled to announce the launch of the Pedal Power Youth Project, a dynamic initiative designed to engage and inspire Bradford’s young people through the joy of cycling, while simultaneously fostering a vibrant connection with arts and culture. This project is funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and graciously supported by the African Business Association and Capital of Cycling.
Pedal Power 2025, the project’s flagship event, will take place on April 11th and 12th, offering a unique blend of skill-building activities, friendly competition, and educational workshops. This project goes beyond traditional sports initiatives, weaving in elements of creativity and community engagement that resonate deeply with Bradford’s rich cultural landscape.
“We believe that cycling is not just about physical activity; it’s a powerful tool for building community, promoting sustainability, and sparking creativity,” said Dr Olushola Kolawole, Executive Director of OAK Initiative UK CIC. “Pedal Power is designed to ignite a passion for cycling while enriching the cultural fabric of Bradford.”
ODYSSEY Media House CIC has been instrumental in planning and executing the project, ensuring a comprehensive program that includes:
- Bike Rodeos: Interactive events combining cycling skills with creative obstacle courses, encouraging artistic expression through movement.
- Skills Clinics: Expert-led sessions conducted at local venues, fostering confidence and technical ability.
- Cycling Challenges: Friendly competitions that celebrate achievement and promote community spirit, with prizes that inspire further engagement.
- Educational Workshops: Sessions featuring guest speakers on cycling, health, and sustainability, enriching participants’ understanding of the world around them.
“The Pedal Power project is more than just a sporting event; it’s a cultural experience,” said Oluwadamilola Adetomiwa, Executive Director of Odyssey Media House. “We’re integrating artistic elements into every aspect of the project, from the design of the obstacle courses to the creation of promotional materials. “We are using our media experience to bring an extra layer of engagement to the project ensuring that it is inclusive to every community of young people across the district, ” said GbolaJesu Amusa, Marketing and PR Director, Odyssey Media House.
The project’s social media campaign will actively showcase the intersection of cycling and culture, featuring visually engaging content that highlights the creativity and energy of Bradford’s youth.
