BRADFORD, UK – July 27, 2025 – In a vibrant showcase of innovation and community, Odyssey Media House, a dynamic creative organisation, successfully hosted a groundbreaking event titled Create to Heal at Theatre in the Mill. The evening brought together a diverse group of artists and creatives to explore the intricate relationship between mental well-being and the creative process, delivering a truly delightful and memorable experience.
Our vision for ‘City of Film Echoes’ is to be part of building and shaping the future of Bradford, the UK’s first UNESCO City of Film,” said Oluwadamilola Adetomiwa, Executive Director of Odyssey Media House. Our goal for this first event was to provide a safe space for creatives to explore how mental health uniquely manifests across different art forms, said Oluwadamilola Adetomiwa, Executive Director of Odyssey Media House. This was the first of many screenings and events where we hope to foster understanding, connection, and meaningful dialogue that empowers artists in their journeys.”
The evening was structured to be both thought-provoking and inspiring. It kicked off with a screening of the poignant film Joy is Bitter, written and directed by Odyssey Media House Creative Director, Marvellous Godson and produced by a young-adult faith community called The Sanctified. The film, which centres on themes of trauma, resilience, faith and the power of human connection, provided a powerful foundation for the discussions that followed.
The screening seamlessly transitioned into an insightful dialogue where creatives shared their experiences and perspectives on navigating mental wellness within their artistic journeys. The conversation fostered a raw and honest atmosphere, with participants sharing personal stories of struggle and resilience, as well as providing feedback on the film..
Following the screening, the audience was captivated by a powerful spoken word performance from rising artist Mofetoluwa Racheal Fasanya. Her piece, a raw and honest testament to the theme, declared that she creates not because things are perfect, but because when she does, healing starts. With remarkable courage, she shared how spoken word helped her turn pain into purpose, reminding everyone that they, too, have the capacity to drive their own healing through their stories.
The evening culminated in a celebratory atmosphere with the Celebrate Yourself session, featuring a live performance by Bradford’s rising band, Omotola & Friends. The vibrant Afro-pop music encouraged audience participation, cementing the event as a joyful and unforgettable experience.
Odyssey Media House extended its gratitude to its partners, including the National Science and Media Museum, Bradford 2025, and Cinema for All. Looking ahead, Adetomiwa announced upcoming projects like A City in Frames and the new movie Carnal Merchant, affirming that Odyssey’s commitment to supporting diverse voices is resolute. The Odyssey Media team was also bolstered by Tobi Olorunmakomi, Love Babalola and Mojola Oni, who were critical to the execution of the event and the delivery of its first edition. “Our doors are open to those who want to collaborate on their dreams, because with Odyssey, we believe: It can be.
